Smart Storage Platform

Continuing to Fuel Data Center Transformation

Performance, power, security, and reliability are essential when you are looking for solutions to help you keep up with the massive growth of the data center industry. Performance requirements are driven by both the increased adoption of Flash-based Solid State Drives (SSDs) and the increasing sizes of Hard Disk Drive (HDD) arrays. Owners of data centers want to take advantage of the performance that these Flash-based drives promise, and they require storage solutions that can deliver manageability and data availability without compromising on performance.

Power is a significant component of a data center’s operating expenses. Optimizing power for cold storage tiers in the data center, for example, delivers substantial benefits to the bottom line. Data security has become one of the highest priorities for data centers and cloud computing environments as enterprises seek to safeguard customer information, classified company documentation and communications, financial records, employee payroll records and other confidential data. As more mission-critical data finds its way to data centers, end customers insist on reduced downtime, improved response times to issues and a more positive end-user experience overall.

Our unified Smart Storage platform, consisting of our SmartROC (RAID-on-Chip) and SmartIOC (IO Controller) controllers and SmartRAID, SmartHBA and HBA SAS/SATA adapters, offers the industry’s most reliable, secure, low-power and high-performance storage solutions. They deliver substantial reductions in operating costs and significant power savings when compared to alternative solutions at equivalent port densities. Unique features such as maxCache, which allows for solid state storage drives (SSDs) to be configured as cache, and Zero Performance Cache Maintenance (ZMCP), which enables instant cache protection, also maximize performance. Our entire portfolio leverages core IP with consistent tools and broad compatibility across the product platform to make our solutions easy to deploy and manage.

New Product: Adaptec SmartRAID 3100E RAID Adapters

The entry-level Adaptec SmartRAID 3100E RAID adapters are a cost-effective hardware RAID solution. They have been added to our trusted Smart Storage platform to support deployments that use fewer drives and can benefit from caching capabilities but do not need the full cache backup or advanced RAID levels of our full-featured RAID adapters. Some key benefits include:

  • Accelerated storage with up to 2 GB of high-speed DRAM cache
  • Significant power savings as compared to competing solutions
  • RAID levels 0, 1, 10, 1 ADM, 10 ADM
  • Consistent drivers, firmware and management tools for seamless integration
  • Ideal for computing and graphical applications, simple storage subsystems, testing servers, point-of-sale (POS) terminals/kiosks and monitoring all types of system and manufacturing operations

Technology Leadership with Data Encryption

Solutions for data-at-rest encryption are now a security requirement in many market segments such as healthcare, finance, e-commerce, federal government branches and insurance. These markets constitute a significant overall percentage of the deployed storage. Data center managers face the challenge of safeguarding data while still meeting continually increasing performance demands for large-scale applications, such as web serving, file serving, databases, Online Transaction Processing (OLTP), machine learning and High-Performance Computing (HPC).

The SmartRAID 3162-8i /e, with our maxCrypto™ controller-based encryption, delivers data protection with little to no impact on latency or I/O performance. The 3162-8i /e offers superior advantages over Self-Encrypting Drives (SEDs) and integrates seamlessly into existing storage infrastructures, allowing data center managers to deploy a uniform, scalable encryption strategy across the enterprise.
